"ALL SUMMER IN A DAY" ~ RAY BRADBURY
Sky- The sun was about to come out and the sun gives
everyone an excited feeling.
Example: “The children pressed to each other like so many
roses, so many weeds, intermixed, peering out for a look at the hidden sun.”
(1)
Tragedy: Storms- In this short story, there was a lot of
thunder and rain storms which makes it a tragedy. Rain makes people feel sad
and lonely so when it rains for seven years and you can never run and play you get
a deep feeling of sadness.
Example: “It rained. It had been raining for seven years;
thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain,
with the drum and gush of water, with the sweet crystal fall of showers and the
concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands.” (1)
Weather- Depending on the weather depends on peoples moods
so if it rains for seven years it is never going to be a happy day because you
have nothing to be happy about.
Example: “They were all nine years old, and if there had
been a day, seven years ago, when the sun came out for an hour and showed its
face to the stunned world.” (1)
Colors- Colors makes the world fun and interesting so when
the sun came out it felt like summer and they could run and play and have fun
outside but have to go inside and wait another 7 years to ever see the sun again
which made them feel very sad.
Example: “Gold or a yellow crayon or a coin large enough to
buy the world with. She knew they thought they remembered warmness, like a
blushing in the face, in the body, in the arms and legs trembling hands.” (1)
Parts of House- Closets are often considered dark places
which would make people feel sad or scared and not very comfortable feeling.
Example: “Behind the closet door was only silence.” (4)
Plants- Overgrown gardens, since there’s rain for seven
years straight and barely any sun, there’s an overgrown garden outside the
school. Which makes people feel like they are in a place that isn’t very home
feeling.
Example: “They stopped running and stood in the great jungle
that covered Venus, which grew and never stopped growing, tumultuously, even as
you watched it. It was a nest of octopi, clustering up great arms of fresh-like
weed, wavering, flowering in this brief spring.” (3)
Romance: Colors- There’s a lot of white-ish colors in this
jungle because there is no sun to make the willow trees green. This makes
people feel like they have no life and are just stuck inside.
Example: “It was the color of rubber and ash, from the many
years without sun. It was the color of stones and white cheeses and ink, and it
was the color of the moon.” (3)
Tragedy: Lighting- Makes people feel tragic like what they
had waited and waited to see disappeared right before them and now they feel
empty.
Example: “A boom of thunder startled them and like leaves
before a new hurricane, they tumbled upon each other and ran. Lighting struck
ten miles away, five miles away, a mile, a half mile.” (4)
